PayPal Launches Aggressive User Incentive Campaign Amid Fintech Sector Pressures
PayPal has announced a large-scale promotional campaign, leveraging the star power of actor Will Ferrell to generate momentum around its digital payment services. The sweepstakes, offering up to $10 million in giveaways, is aimed at boosting user engagement with PayPal Checkout and its buy now, pay later (BNPL) offerings.
The promotion allows 1,000 winners per day to have up to $100 in purchases covered for a span of 100 days, with customers eligible for up to five payouts. This move comes as PayPal aims to double its BNPL volume to $60 billion over the next three years.
Despite the aggressive campaign, PayPal stock has declined over 6%, reflecting ongoing concerns in the fintech sector, where macroeconomic headwinds and competition from players like Apple Pay continue to apply downward pressure.
Affirm Holdings, a key BNPL rival, has also seen its stock drop 33% in 2025. As earnings season approaches, PayPal’s Q1 results (expected April 29) will likely offer a clearer view into the effectiveness of its promotional strategies and user retention efforts.
